4 Staff Development Policy

4.1 Preamble  

This policy governs the development of staff so as to encourage them through high quality teaching and Institutional commit

4.2 Objective

To provide a detailed framework for advancement of career for the staff in a manner that shall incentivise superior work performance and provide for greater recognition of efforts

4.3 Assessors

Assessor are appointed based on:

• Qualification  

• Required number of years of working and teaching experience

• Prescribed achievement in work and teaching.  

• Acceptable work and teaching feedback  

• Demonstrated organisational reporting  

• Performance / Self Appraisal system

4.4 Training and Qualifications Policy

4.4.1 General

Training requirements will be reviewed on an annual basis and details of qualifications gained will be retained in individual personnel records.

Any employee may at any time bring to the attention of the Chief Instructor an identified shortfall in training needs.

4.4.2 Personal Tutors and Onboard Trainers

SSNT will formally appoint freelance instructors to the positions of Personal Tutor and /or Onboard Trainer to support SSNT students.Qualifications, sea going experience, familiarity with SSNT material, recommendation from experienced trainers will form the basis of selection criteria.
