1.4.1 Purpose

The LMS is for students to access theory videos and documents for the lessons, as well as the workbooks for practical coastal navigation. Each student is assigned a personal tutor to coach and mentor.

1.4.2 Hosting Platform

The LMS is hosted by myicourse.com. SSNT uses the ‘free’ version. We use 1 administrative website (to upload, edit material) and there 12 ‘satellite’ websites where students access only the course material they have paid for.

1.4.3 LMS Design

The LMS has all of the theory material in 57 units.

Each unit has the learning material presented mainly in short (average duration 4 minutes) videos. There are approximately 190 videos and approximately 20 downloadable documents in the LMS. And there are approximately 900 multiple choice questions on the LMS.

The videos on the LMS are mainly uploaded in SCORM format and a few were in mp4 format.

1.4.4 Hosting

There is the risk that the ‘myicourse’ domain can end the service without notice at any time. Hosting the SMS ourselves is preferable.

1.5 Course Completion Certificates

Completion dates must reflect the actual date each student completed the course requirements.
